The ever-increasing stream of migrant labour has had a major impact on the socio-economic growth of Kerala, especially in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector (Kerala Institute of Labour and Employment (KILE), 2022). Migrants have long been acknowledged as a major source of labour, but their potential as entrepreneurs has garnered very little scholarly study. Sustainable entrepreneurship is an effective approach for migrants to promote job creation, industrial development, and inclusive economic progress (Fauziah et al., 2025). This study builds and evaluates a structural model to explain sustained entrepreneurship among the inbound migrants in Kerala. A structured questionnaire was administered to collect primary data from 400 migrant workers engaged in the manufacturing and service sector MSMEs. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM) were used to test the hypothesised links between the development of migrant startups, industrial estate development, rehabilitation of sick industrial units and sustainable entrepreneurship. The findings indicate that the development of migrant start-ups has a positive impact on industrial estate development and the rehabilitation of sick industrial units. Similarly, the growth of industrial estates and the rehabilitation of sick units have a significant impact on sustainable enterprise. The study provides empirical evidence supporting the strategic significance of migrant entrepreneurship in building MSMEs and fostering sustainable economic development. The findings have practical relevance for policymakers, agencies for industrial development, and entrepreneurial support organisations.
